My Favorite Off-Hill Workout

Studio X   Studio X 2

For the last few months I’ve been attending Punk Rock Boot Camp classes at Studio X in SE Portland.  These classes have become my favorite way to stay in shape for the snowboard season.

Benefits to Off-Hill Training

I have come to accept the harsh reality that becoming an “adult” unfortunately means less snowboarding.  As a weekend warrior, I just wasn’t riding enough to condition my snowboarding muscles.  A little strength training and cardio go a long way to improve your riding.  With stronger core and leg muscles comes increased endurance to ride longer days, steeper pitches, and at faster speeds.   A cardio workout will help condition your heart and make those short hikes to your Private Reserve stash even shorter.

Why Punk Rock Boot Camp?

Punk Rock Boot Camp is an intense workout.  Janan (our bad ass instructor) incorporates cardio, strength training, balance, and stretching element into an hour long work out that burns a serious amount of calories and leaves you sore for days.  I understand that my description doesn’t sound like a lot of fun, but the people in the class are rad, Janan is knowledgeable and encouraging (in a tough way), and we listen to good music.  Plus, I am definitely seeing results on the mountain.

Join the Class

Punk Rock Boot Camp meets every Thursday night at 6pm.  Studio X is located on SE Stark, right between Stark Naked Pizza and The Goodfoot.  Yes, it is incredibly hard to walk out of there and have pizza to your right and beer to your left.  The first class is free and after that it’s only $15/class.  If you can’t make it on Thursdays, Janan also hosts BAMF (Bad Ass Mother Fucker) Bootcamp on Tuesday nights at 7pm.
