K2 Snowboarding Preview – New Tech for 09-10 Season

K2 Gretchen Lifestyle, Seattle

I gained access to some of K2’s press releases for 2010. Here’s an overview on K2’s new technology for next season and a quick summary of the new women’s 2010 K2 Snowboard collection. Thanks K2!

Over the years, snowboarding has seen any number of “technological advancements.” The truth is, unless it improves the quality of your ride, any ‘technological advancement’ is nothing more than a marketing gimmick. As snowboarders ourselves, at K2 we only tout the technology that actually works, that actually improves the ride that actually makes a great day even better. Our athletes – from our international pro team to our regional rep riders – have put our ’09-’10 product to the test, and thanks to their feedback we’ve dialed it in righter than ever before. With their help, we’ve developed our new Baseline Technology, which incorporates different levels of our Rocker and new Flatline Technology and traditional camber into boards across the line. We’ve improved on the Boa® access system with new Boa® Access system with new Boa®Conda Technology, we’ve incorporated our Harshmellow ultimate damping system into more boot, board and binding models, and we’ve expanded the use of our Eco Conscious Construction (ECC) and environmentally sensitive Hybrilight Construction to help keep winter cold and snowy.

New & Notable:

K2 Women’s Snowboards:
NEW! The K2 Airdu Snowboard– The new women’s Airdu brings Flatline Technology to the park and pipe on Leanne Pelosi’s signature board. A bamboo core makes the Airdu as forgiving on the environment as it is on the slopes.

NEW! The K2 EcoPop Snowboard– X-Games Gold Medalist Gretchen Bleiler helped K2’s engineers design her new board, the EcoPop. What they came up with is a top of the line all-mountain women’s board built with K2’s Eco Conscious Construction (ECC) and featuring our Harshmellow damping and Flatline Technology.

K2 Women’s Snowboard Bindings:
K2 Auto Agogo and K2 Virtue Bindnigs – Our women’s Auto Agogo and Virtue bindings get a new women’s specific highback for ’09-’10. The redesigned highback, which features a shorter height, asymmetrical flair, softer flex and fit matching a woman’s natural body geometry, will help K2’s female riders go hard all day long.

K2 Women’s Snowboard Boots:
The K2 Contour DB, Affair w/ Boa®Conda and K2 Affair Boots – Upping the ante for women riders this season, K2 is bringing our new Boa®Conda system to the women’s Contour DB and Affair w/ Boa®Conda boots. The new system compliments Boa® Technology by creating a better fit and reducing pressure points around the foot. Both of these women’s specific boots, along with the Affair, are receiving an injection of Harshmellow damping for ’09 -’10.

About K2 Snowboarding:
Born in the U.S. Pacific Northwest in the shadows of the Cascade Mountains, K2 Snowboarding was raised in the backcountry of Baker. From the beginning, our goal has been to create original concepts and technology that drives snowboarding forward. Today we continue to innovate and progress the sport from the backcountry to the parks…and everything in between. For more information visit www.k2snowboarding.com.
