How To Boycott Burton

by courtney on August 27, 2009

Just Say NoI’ve heard a lot of complaints about Burton lately from consumers and industry insiders alike.  Many people feel overwhelmed by the “Big B’s” power and don’t think there is anything we can do to change the way they do business.

So, if you are getting down on Burton,  stop whining and do something about it – STOP BUYING BURTON PRODUCTS.

If you are contemplating purchasing a Burton product, talk to a well-respected shop kid and have them show you some comparable items (If you don’t have a good local shop in your area, email me).  I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the fact that you can get a board that rides very similar to a Burton board (if not better) at a fraction of the price with better service and a better warranty.

Even when looking at products like outerwear, goggles, and packs there are companies out there who are committed to bettering the snowboard industry and deserve your business more.

It might take a little more time than hopping onto Burton.com, but it will definitely be worth it as you will be supporting independent retailers to help grow dedicated snowboard companies.

Burton makes great gear.  We can’t deny that.  They make great gear and market snowboarding better than anyone in this industry.  We have to be appreciative of their history and role in growing and progressing snowboarding. However, they have been making some business decisions in the last few years that are really hurting the snowboard industry and community.  Show them you don’t approve by putting an end to your Burton consumerism.

Yes… I know it seems totally hypocritical that I am advertising Burton products. Unfortunately, it is beyond my tech skills to eliminate Burton branded items from the product feed that runs into my blog.

I bet if you got in touch with the advertising company, they might be able to help you out on that one.

All I own, or that is left of Burton, is a pair of mitts and gloves. They are on their way out and will be replaced this season.

Actually I might own a pair of Anon goggles. Totally forgot. Have to admit, though, they fit great.

Haven’t owned anything Burton since the turn of the century. I saw where that company was headed a while ago, too many people were lemmings and now they’re going to fall off the cliff.
