Week 5 Post-Op Right TPLO

May 17, 2015 by courtney wilson in Kaz

It's week five after the surgery and I feel like we've hit a plateau. Kaz doesn't seem to be improving as noticeably as before. Mentally, she is ready to go. Physically, we are still seeing the limp and severe bow-leggedness in her right leg.

At our last check-up, Dr. Lozier wanted us to start taking her out for more "walk and sniffs". We're supposed to take her out for an 1/8 of a mile walk a couple times a day. However, we're only supposed to walk a few steps, then pause and let her sniff, then walk a few more steps, and so on.

We've been trying to be more strict about this activity. She doesn't want to follow the walk and sniff cadence, however. She just wants to power walk to the end of the block and beyond. The other issue is that she is so used to her old routine (long walk in the morning and naps for the rest of the day until dinner, then bed time). She's all for getting out for her short walk in the morning, but it's really difficult to get her out and motivated for a walk in the evening.

I'm hoping if we keep diligent about the walks she'll continue to get stronger and eventually improve. We have our next check up with Dr. Lozier next week, so it's good motivation for us.

Compare with Week 5 of Kaz's 2009 TPLO Surgery.
