About

This Is Lady In Shred

Obviously, my first thought was to rewrite the lyrics of Chris De Burgh’s “Lady in Red” to describe everything that I wanted this blog to be about. But on the rare chance that this blog becomes successful, I fear the consequences of copyright infringement.

I label Lady in Shred as a Women’s Specific Snowboard Guide to Gear, Style and Events because those are SEO friendly keywords that I’m hoping will drive tons of traffic to my site. Realistically though, this is just a blog to enrich the lives of female snowboarders.

From beginning female snowboarders looking for info on how to buy their first snowboard, to progressing riders wanting reviews on the latest women’s snowboard, to jaded girls who are just over it – my goal is to use Lady in Shred as an informative, helpful, and somewhat humorous forum to Women’s Snowboarding.

Please check back often, as I promise this blog is only going to get better and better. Feel free to contact me at anytime and let me know what you think about Lady in Shred and what you’d like to know more about it.

About Me

Courtney Wilson

My name is Courtney Wilson and I live in Portland OR with my 2-year-old Bullmastiff Kaz.  My life has been fairly interesting so far, but there is one theme that constantly runs through it- snowboarding.

I grew up skiing on garbage-dump- turned-ski-resorts in Minnesota and spent most of my formative years dreaming of the day when I could move to the mountains.  My first snow industry job was working at Pinewski’s Ski Shop in Anoka.  I was hired after interviewing one of the shop techs about his ski career for the community college newspaper.

After highschool, I moved out to Bozeman and became a Montana State University Bobcat.  I don’t feel any shame saying that I never attended a single college football game in the 5 years I was a student.  Instead I spent most my time working at World Boards and shredding Bridger Bowl and Big Sky.  Only after I began riding in the mountains did I consider myself a real snowboarder.

After I graduated I decided to get serious about working in the snowboard industry.  “Serious” meant moving to Portland, a city with far more employment opportunities and a Northwest hub for snowboarding.

In February 2009,  I was laid off from my snow product management position at TruSnow.  It’s hard not to be bitter, but I know someday I will genuinely appreciate everything I learned while working for them.  On the plus side,  I can finally write my own women’s specific snowboard blog.

My Riding Style:

I describe my riding style as “Kid Sister“.  I love riding with people who are better than me because that pushes me to progress.  But I usually just end up trying to keep up as best as I can, much like a Kid Sister following you around the mountain.

From spending the day working myself over in the park, trying to keep up with skiers traversing out of bounds, or allowing myself to be led to drops that seem just a little too big for me… I’ll ride most everything, as long as I’m having fun.

I won’t ride in the rain or freezing cold and I try to avoid man-made obstacles.  I’m a pretty typical all-mountain freestyle shredder.  I like riding pow, fast groomers, and hitting natural terrain features.  At the end of the day, there’s nothing better than a pitcher of beer and a tray of nachos with friends…
